A few points, since you have 4 PCs with the problem I doubt that all 4 have problems. Or maybe they have but I would run and buy a lottery ticket ;)
1. You installed Linux Lite via DVD I'm guessing. Can you boot the 3.6 Live DVD and check if problem still occur?
2. Can you do the same with a 2.x Linux Lite DVD?
3. Linux Lite is not in the officially supported distribution of UNetbootin. If the USB key was corrupted someone,
you could need to "low-level" format it (i.e. complete wipe not just reformat) before doing anything else with it.
4. Bonus, if the key works in a Windows computer, you could try using Rufus of something else to put the ISO on the key.

Good luck!

This begs the question. Do other usb sticks work? Like Sandisk. PNY. Kingston. No. You do not need a linux only usb stick. At least I don't. I use 1 TB usb toshiba and seagate hard drives made for windows on my linux lite installtions.

This sounds to me like a broken usb drive. Or proprietary at the most. Who makes this drive? Got a link? I wanna know what not to buy.
I wish you were right... but alas... I have three new 16 Gbite USB drives and two more that I have used....successfully.... when I had linux lite 2.0 on my desktops and my laptop....now....they do not work . I did see an advertisement for a linux USB drive....could not figure out what made it different.... thanks for your input.

Hi,

Have you tried using GParted (or another disk partition program) to erase all partitions on the USB disk, before formating?
Sometimes, disks have hidden partition to prevent deletion of "installation softwares" like U3 encryption, etc.

Cheers!

Hello... I use 16 Gbite USB drives and I do not break them into partitions....I use the whole thing for only one 5 Gbite item (linux lite).

Just an additional thought:

1)  Does this happen on other USB ports on the computer; and,
2)  If using a USB extension cable, have you tried without the cable (i.e., plugging the drive directly into the port)?  This was the cause of recent problems for me.

yep....I tried all the available ports....no change...no use of a an extension cable.

Don't worry about artificial intelligence.  Worry about natural stupidity.  :)

Hello...I operate four dell desks tops and one acer laptop... I  have linux lite 3.6 on all of them...I am trying to switch to USB drives and not use disk...but each time I try to use the USB drive... all I get is a message that says the system does not see a flash drive and I need to re format...needless to say...I tried and tried... then ...when all else failed...I read the USB flash information which says it is not for linux...only windows.. what now...  must I buy an USB flash that is made for linux operating systems...? thanks.... Keller
If I go to Disks : I show my hard drive...the dvd drive....and two separate USB drives. When I try to use Unetbootin I get the message that no USB drive is seen...and suggest I reformat....

It might also be of importance to note: when I had linux lite  2.0 I used two different USB drives with no problem....so what did 3.6 change....?
