I've seen similar before, maybe this will help?
Geany, referred to in that thread, is my preferred text editor.

When I try to access the contents of my USB flash disks, only a text editor opens. For some reason,  this does not happen on the LL live disk. Should I re-install only the OS partition or also /var, /opt, and /usr? This problem seems unrelated to drcrkeller's.
