Glad you were able to get it all working for you. As I've said here before, gold DOES tarnish.

It makes one wonder. How many SD cards and flash drives get pitched over dirty contacts?

Yes.

Also correct. PCs must recognize both adapter and card at the same time - regardless of OS...

Do a Create System Report and attach it here. See if our drive reporting tools pick it up.

Not sure if this is any help but I have a Microe brand USB card reader that won't work when plugged in and I put any type of card in it.
The card has to be inserted before plugging it in, then it works fine.

Done sudo fdsk -l
Does not show up.

Has been detected on this machine in the past. some months ago. .

How can I force detection of this Micr SD card.  Wish to transfer music files to the Micro SD -  The latter is working on mobile phone - windows OS

PS  computer is recognising/reading other usb sticks OK
MicroSD Card is OK in phone - just retested - so presume it is OK.
