How do I rename an external drive?

Just a note

It's possible to do it with Gparted also if you prefer. Select the correct drive from the device dropdown in right upper corner. It must  be unmounted before you can rename it. Right click the partition and  unmount it. When unmounted Right click the partition again and select "Label file system"

Many thanks DeepThought.
Problem now solved, with the drives now showing in the Thunar file manager as LaCie1 and LaCie2  8)

Sorry, forgot to mention the drive has to be unmounted before any changes can be made.
Go to Disks, highlight the drive and just to the left of the cogs is a black square, click on that to unmount the drive.
Then carry on with the cogs to rename as mentioned before.
Then click on the play button that replaced the black square to remount, or just unplug/replug your external hdd.

@DeepThought

When I do this I get the following notification message:

--- Code: ---                                Error setting label
Cannot change label on mounted device of type filesystem:ntfs.
 (udisks-error-quark, 11)

--- End code ---

As I'm dual-booted, I'll try in Win8.1 & post back the result ...
