Title: CD-DVD not working
Post by: gfric90 on July 09, 2019, 02:24:56 AM
Hi, I'm new to both linux and linux lite, I've been trying to read a DVD but VLC keeps showing this message:
Code: [Select]
VLC media player 3.0.4 Vetinari (revision 3.0.4-0-gf615db6332)
[000055b6ce684570] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
qt5ct: using qt5ct plugin
qt5ct: D-Bus global menu: no
qt5ct: D-Bus system tray: no
[00007fc1700015f0] filesystem stream error: cannot open file /home/ricardo/dvd (No such file or directory)

So I read some of the post down here and execute the inxi -d command and the output was the following:

Code: [Select]
Drives:    HDD Total Size: 500.1GB (3.6% used)
           ID-1: /dev/sda model: TOSHIBA_MK5076GS size: 500.1GB
           Optical-1: /dev/sr0 model: hp CDDVDW TS-L633R
           dev-links: cdrom,cdrw,dvd,dvdrw
           Features: speed: 24x multisession: yes
audio: yes dvd: yes rw: cd-r,cd-rw,dvd-r,dvd-ram

and the wodim --devices command says the following:

Code: [Select]
wodim: No such file or directory.
Cannot open SCSI driver!
For possible targets try 'wodim --devices' or 'wodim -scanbus'.
For possible transport specifiers try 'wodim dev=help'.
For IDE/ATAPI devices configuration, see the file README.ATAPI.setup from
the wodim documentation.

also run the wodim -checkdrive:

Code: [Select]
Device was not specified. Trying to find an appropriate drive...
Detected CD-R drive: /dev/cdrw
Using /dev/cdrom of unknown capabilities
Device type    : Removable CD-ROM
Version        : 5
Response Format: 2
Capabilities   :
Vendor_info    : 'hp      '
Identification : 'CDDVDW TS-L633R '
Revision       : '0400'
Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW.
wodim: Cannot load media with this drive!
wodim: Try to load media by hand.
Using generic SCSI-3/mmc   CD-R/CD-RW driver (mmc_cdr).
Driver flags   : MMC-3 SWABAUDIO BURNFREE
Supported modes: TAO PACKET SAO SAO/R96P SAO/R96R RAW/R16 RAW/R96P RAW/R96R

I don't really know how to access directly by hand to the device or solve this issue, everything else is working fine, i have the "mount" option checked in the settings manager, i also tried installing the Restricted Extras.

Final output, i promise, this time was sudo lshw -C disk :

Code: [Select]
*-cdrom
       description: DVD-RAM writer
       product: CDDVDW TS-L633R
       vendor: hp
       physical id: 0.0.0
       bus info: scsi@1:0.0.0
       logical name: /dev/cdrom
       logical name: /dev/cdrw
       logical name: /dev/dvd
       logical name: /dev/dvdrw
       logical name: /dev/sr0
       version: 0400
       capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r dvd-ram
       configuration: ansiversion=5 status=open
So, thanks in advance for your patience and hope i can solve this.

When you go Menu, Open Disc, does it show your Disc device as /dev/sr0:

Enter the file system of the dvd, and open VIDEO_TS.IFO with VLC as standard.
