  • Linux Lite: 2.8 64bit

  • CPU: AMD Athalon II x4 3.0Ghz

  • MEMORY: 8Gb

  • VIDEO CARD: Nvidia GTX 460
Whenever I click the Linux installer link I get the following error message:

Failed to open URI "gogdownloader://beneath_a_steel_sky/installer_linux_en".

The specified location is not valid.

Any help? These are linux games I'm trying to install by the way. I'm using Chrome. I also get an error message in Firefox.

Thanks.

I know nothing about games, but took quick look at the gog site.  The game itself says it can be run on Linux, but the "gog downloader" only lists ability to work on Windows and Mac from what I saw.  (I did not spend a lot of time looking through support section, so maybe there is a version of the download software for Linux and I just didn't see it.)  Can you just do a regular download of the game instead of trying to download it with the special gog downloader?

There's not other way to install any software from there as far as I see. They say a linux version of their Galaxy game client is being developed, but it's not out yet.

Galaxy game client worked in windows but I refuse to go back there. Well, I suppose that if the software won't download correctly for me in Linux then I don't need it. At least Steam works well.

GoG still don't (as far as I'm aware) have a user friendly way to install games on linux. There are hoops to jump through. Some helpful links - http://www.gog.com/forum/neverwinter_nights_series/ubuntu_installation_walkthrough https://www.google.com/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=6JVgVsOuOMXu8we4wJmgCg&gws_rd=ssl#q=how+to+install+gog+games+on+ubuntu

You can download games from GOG without using their downloader.

Click on the game card, then>Click the more button followed by the menu item gog downloader links, then> Select Beneath a Steel Sky - Linux - installer

That's exactly what I tried. Chrome warns that it must use another program to open the link....then I get a "bad URI" error.

Did you ever get this to work?

I was able to, in another Ubuntu-based distro.  I can try to retrace my steps and walk you through the details of what I did if you still need help.

It was not easy or user-friendly for me, but basically once I downloaded the installer, I had to get it to launch in a Terminal window, and then it worked.

You try it without the /nogui option. Behavior of the installers differ, different versions/scripts in use. Might help to use a newer version of Wine.
