Did you ever get this to work?

I was able to, in another Ubuntu-based distro.  I can try to retrace my steps and walk you through the details of what I did if you still need help.

It was not easy or user-friendly for me, but basically once I downloaded the installer, I had to get it to launch in a Terminal window, and then it worked.

Galaxy game client worked in windows but I refuse to go back there. Well, I suppose that if the software won't download correctly for me in Linux then I don't need it. At least Steam works well.

You can download games from GOG without using their downloader.

Click on the game card, then>Click the more button followed by the menu item gog downloader links, then> Select Beneath a Steel Sky - Linux - installer

GoG still don't (as far as I'm aware) have a user friendly way to install games on linux. There are hoops to jump through.
