My Samsung netbook (single-core dual-threaded CPU N455@1.66GHz) listed in my signature below, runs too slowly with 64-bit LL 3 & 4 series to make this worthwhile. However, it's the same story with other 64-bit OSes, like Manjaro-xfce which is currently installed on it. Does anyone have any ideas on what distros would run smoothly with a single core Intel Atom CPU, like the one I have? Combing the internet, I  have seen Puppy Linux suggested, while others recommend a 32-bit xfce desktop system, even though it has a 64-bit architecture.

I don't think this question belongs on this site. It is better placed on a generic site like Linux Questions. Discussing other distros here is somewhat disrespectful. I know this is not your intention, simply a minor slip.

Perhaps this isn't an OS or processor problem.  I don't know how fast you expect things to be.  But perhaps you have a slow drive.  I wouldn't be surprised if your netbook has a 5400 RPM hard drive.  If so, consider upgrading it to 7200 RPM, or better yet consider upgrading it to a solid state drive (SSD).  See how fast Linux Lite runs on your single core, dual threaded PC then.
