My laptop is dual boot, windows 10 and LL 4.2. Since yesterday i noticed that my download speed on LL is slow, i have a 200 mbit connection and on LL i get a max of 30-40 mbit/sec download, the upload is good, about 250 mbit/sec. When i boot into windows i dont have that problem, download there is 205 mbit and upload 250 mbit.

This has not always been like this, before i had normal download speed on LL. I can't figure out what is causing this problem.

Just booted LL from usb stick and tested download speed. It was fine, 205 Mbit/sec

Fixed by reinstalling LL4.2. Marked as solved
Hi,

Do you have proprietary drivers installed for your network card.
If not, are any available when checking for drivers with the utility?

Cheers!
I installed LL again and now the download speeds are about the same. It also fixed the problems i had trying to get wifi working.
More than likely the way you shut down Windows or boot LL is the problem. NEVER select restart from Windows and then select LL from grub. After using Windows, when you shut down press and hold the shift key down before selecting shutdown in Windows and hold it continuously down until the computer goes off. Next time you have the problem boot into Windows and shut down that way, then boot LL and run manual fsck. Shouldn't have to reinstall LL just because Windows is not shutting down all the way, which is what's happening.

I havent done that as far as i can remember. Installing LL again isnt a problem, took me less then 30 minutes to get all working again.
Hehe!
Yeah... thats one of the main reason I'm using Linux now. I just don't have HOURS to reinstall an OS.
I have slow "high-speed" internet at home so downloading updates to Windows, specially 10 is a few gigabytes now.
I'll have to download an updated media (again) next time.
Also, you need an SSD with Windows 10, otherwise updates are sloooow.

Cheers!
A Timeshift restore wouldnt be a bad idea either, restore qoukd be even quicker Smile

I have a timeshift restore, but i thought that it would have the same problem as i experienced. DSo i decided to delete that restore and do a fresh install and then make a new timeshift backup.

Laptop has an SSD, my internet speed is 200mbit/sec up and download. I only use windows for my ancestry research. At the moment stuck at ancestors from 1605

Yeah... that darn 1605 hurdle! Wink ... but I don't have any idea about ancestry, LoL.
ADD: Woah, after a few searches, I don't have a direct line but was able to go back to the 1100's , I'll have to check this further this weekend. Interesting stuff.
