It was long but I successfully installed Linux Lite on a Pentium 3, 10GB HDD annnd, wait for it... 2-5-6 MBs of ultrafast RAM!
It rebooted fine, was able to crawl and do updates and reboot too.
"Using" the computer is another story though, almost anything is so slow that it "looks" crashed, but it's not.
I usually don't install under 1GB RAM on real crappy config but I didnt have any SDRAM RAM (ouch).
The project was too tempting.

Yeah that bus speed 'll kill ya. One step up from DX66. Laptop makes it worse. Desktops you could add Voodoo card to and race the graphics.

AntiX 17 runs semi-decent on my nonsse2 p3 cpu with 1 gig of ram laptop. Palemoonnonsse2 browser is my favorite browser on it. Flash is not installed. I barely get by on smtube without hammering the cpu. Firefox ESR and SeaMonkey hammer the cpu so bad. I left those behind. Forget Chromium or any other blink browser.
The internet has left you behind on gui apps on 256MB of ram. Put a hardware upgrade in it like I did on mine < mine is dual bank 512MB >
I only keep mine as test bed for new AntiX releases. It has Savage graphics chip,< unsupported by newer xorg so I roll with vesa instead >

This was on hands proof of a concept install for the distro team I belong to so they would know AntiX will run on Chromebook.
The IBM T23 P3 does the same job as this Chromebook as far as hands on proof of concept goes.
You will have to learn cli apps if wanting to use your laptop at any reasonable speed.
I can browse fast in Dillo and Links2, Claws mail works OK if you close everything else.
I turn conky on and off depending on what I am doing.
Window manager instead of Desktop Environment is the norm.
P3 CPU is the choke point mostly. Not my 1 gig of ram. Just look at my conky cpu bar

The good news is that the guy that wanted the laptop for the serial did not take it in the end.
But, the machine was sent to the recycling bin. I'll see if it's still there next weekend... for prosterity! Or better, to infinity! and beyond! 8)

See above. I don't want to use this dinosaur, I don't even want to sell it for 5$ since it will come back because the buyer will try to YouTube or something and will fail miserably.
