Hi
Is there a utility/program/setting that will shred or overwrite files when Trash is emptied?

TIA

Hi [member=6142]bigskill[/member]
You might want to read on shred command which as read on its website "overwrites devices or files, to help prevent even very expensive hardware from recovering the data."

Also, you can try Bleachbit which according to its website  "[size=14px][font=arial][i]includes advanced features such as shredding files to prevent recovery, wiping free disk space to hide traces of files deleted by other applications"
Hope this helps! Smile
The Help Manual has a section on setting up Shred. https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/insta...ecureerase
Thanks for that.
But I would like something that shreds files when you empty the Trash.
So that right click Shred action doesn't work inside the Trash?

No it doesn't
It only seems to work within file manager
I'm not sure of any other way, but you can set up a shortcut to:

Code:
/home/YOURUSER/.local/share/Trash/files/

eg. navigate to there, right click on the Files folder and select Send to, Side Pane. Then rename the shortcut to Recycle Bin or whatever you want.

OK      Would that not shred the whole folder including the folder itself and not just the contents?
I had to edit the Configuration for the action to include "folder" to get it to even show as an option when right clicked,
Did I make a mistake somewhere?
It won't shred the whole folder. You only need to select the files you want to Shred. Don't include 'Folder' in the action. The Help Manual has the exact instructions. You should be working from within the 'Files' folder as shown in the picture in my previous post. Cheers.
Is there a way to select multiple files and shredding them?
The way it is set up now I can only do one at a time.
