I don't see why not. Retailers have a right of return period so I wouldn't be worried either way.

Yes, it will. I installed Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon (an Ubuntu 14.04 LTS derivative) onto the 950 Pro from a USB, and everything worked PERFECTLY!
From what I have seen, an M.2 SSD can offer a more noticeable speed improvement to a system than a new processor. If you choose to travel the M.2 path, then the Samsung 950 Pro is definitely a worthwhile investment — and an excellent choice for Linux.
