That would depend on what the resolution of both your laptop and TV are.
Unless your laptop and TV have the same aspect ratio (as in 4:3 or 16:9) and your TV allows VGA input, or if both laptop and TV have HDMI ports, you probably won't get the same quality of picture on both screens.
If you're trying to do it through a TV (S-VHS) port on your laptop and a TV with component video inputs, it isn't ever going to look as good as it does on the laptop screen. Even using HDMI, I don't get quite as good a picture on the TV as I do the laptop...
