Why is it that after I installed 3.4 I went to install the update files and I got this message:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Linux Lite Updates couldn't fetch the package cache information lists.

Cannot check for updates!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried several times now, yesterday and today to get these to install.
What do I need to do?

Consider running the Safe options in Lite Tweaks.  Then try again.

If that doesn't work, reboot.  Then try again.

If that doesn't work, consider running the 'sudo apt-get update' command from a terminal.  If there is an error, follow the recommendation presented by the error.  If there is no error, run 'sudo apt-get upgrade' from the terminal.  Then try Install Updates again.

If that doesn't work, consider running the Package System Repair option in Lite Tweaks.  Then try again.
After running  sudo apt-get upgrade- This is what I got:

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-headers-4.4.0-45 linux-headers-4.4.0-45-generic linux-headers-4.4.0-62
  linux-headers-4.4.0-62-generic linux-headers-4.4.0-66
  linux-headers-4.4.0-66-generic linux-headers-4.4.0-70
  linux-headers-4.4.0-70-generic linux-image-4.4.0-45-generic
  linux-image-4.4.0-62-generic linux-image-4.4.0-66-generic
  linux-image-4.4.0-70-generic linux-image-extra-4.4.0-45-generic
  linux-image-extra-4.4.0-62-generic linux-image-extra-4.4.0-66-generic
  linux-image-extra-4.4.0-70-generic

After that, running sudo apt-get update-  This is what I got:

W: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/alex-wv/pulseaudio-equalizer-ppa/ubuntu xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/alex-wv/pulseau...4/Packages  404  Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Where are the tweaks located?  I tried to open windows manager tweaks in the settings panel, but all it did was make the cursor go into waiting and waiting and finally just went away. Never opened.
Right in you output  Wink

pulseaudio-equalizer-ppa is failing..

I'd removed (uncheck) from Software & Updates under Other Software heading.. Then retry...

* Lite Tweaks *
Either can be searched for by clicking Menu and typing the name..

Lite Tweaks under System
hmmm... we need to log this too and give users an easier way to see where it failed... same as it does when downloading and installing updates. Gonna add logging for that as well.
Why does this happen when clicking on update?

Linux Lite Updates couldn't fetch the package cache information lists.

Cannot check for updates!

EDIT:
I ran the Repair System Packages in the Lite Tweaks and this is what I got back:

An error occurred while fetching packages lists.
Check your system log for more details.
Your pulse audio ppa appears to be the problem as [member=5414]firenice03[/member] said.
Can you please instruct me on how to disable it so I can run the updates?

My audio is INTEL Integrated on the board in a Dell Opti-Plex 760. I wonder
what is up with that?

Menu => All => Software & Updates... browse to the "Other Software" tab and uncheck http://ppa.launchpad.net/alex-wv/pulseau...ppa/ubuntu xenial
Just a note:

For the next update cycle we have included options to retrieve logs when this error occurs (failed to fetch package cache information lists).

We have also added additional logging to Package System Repair Stage 1:
