In my process of learning LL,  i have started installing it on my friends computers ( i pity my friends who regard me as a computer expert ). I installed LL 2.8 on a 55 yr old's computer and his first reaction was "This program is much easier than windows" so i just wanted to let the guy(s) behind LL know you are doing an amazing job.

You have made it easy for a lot of people to be able to comfortably and securely use there computers without much hassle so a big thank you from me and my friends.
You're very welcome Smile

That's the exact experience I had my fiancee and with my various relatives (starting from my mother). Extremely easy and intuitive to use.

Agreed. I've used MS products ever since the MS-DOS days right up until win7. While I know of the existence of Linux in the 90's. w8 and w10 pretty much convinced me at least for my own use and choice, that I need to find another option in OS and general computing tasks. It was down to Mac\Apple based or Linux based, and while I've used and like some macs (A mid 2012 Mac Pro Tower is still one of the most gorgeous looking computer to my eyes, and some of the Mac Minis model too.). For me I found going with linux based approach seems to be the best match, at least for my use and mindset.

Right now I'm in the process of setting up a small office-home office computer running on Linux Lite 2.8 for my dad, because his win7 machine although no longer cutting edge it's still technically functional. The machine has become bogged down (I didn't set up the machine, and it did not help any that it came with bloatware) and having problems with the w7 update. Even basic browsing became sluggish, and using the computer became a chore for him. Win7 remains IMO the last good OS that MS put forth, but the update problems makes me think MS needs a head shake and a head check.

But MS appears to believe they are on the right path, and no longer seems interested in keeping people like me as their customers, so ces't la vie. Linux and especially Linux Lite thankfully exists, and especially the LL team realizes there is still, and will always be a need for an OS that is functional, clean, fast, simple enough to use for ex-windows users and newbies, and respects the users and their choices.

You sound like me. Except I never considered Apple. I don't like their walled garden. I don't begrudge those who do,but for me, I need freedom.

Even in this day and age, every MS OS requires a complete reinstall at least once a year. I am barely running Win8.1 and know I will need one soon. You can get my cleaning out the accumulated garbage, but is easier to reinstall.

Linux is going to explode with Windows refugees in the near future. Windows insiders are saying MS wants ver 10 to be the last OS version. They are downgrading the OS department and shifting the people to other departments.
Makes sense. What do I need the constant hassle of Windows for anymore? A few games (and that is changing fast on the Linux side, from what I hear).
See all these decades we thought Bill Gates just sucked at making Operating Systems. But he had a devious master plan. Make the OSes so bad the people won't buy them anymore and Microsoft will finally not have to be annoyed by needy customers. Hehehe.

The only reason I am using Win8.1 now is a PIM called Amigo that I started using in probably 2001 (I switched from InfoSelect-which I stared using on my 386Dx 20Mhz which cost me $3500 at the time...yeah,I'm old). I could replace Amigo with one giant text file if I had too,but I am so use to it-my whole adult life is in there-I put up with Windows. I have to pull the trigger and dump MS.

I rejected all the begging and trickery from MS to upgrade to Win10...now with all the Win10 problems friends and family are telling me about,I'm looking like a genius! Thanks MS! Your incompetence makes me look good!
Although I do have to admit it does look nice under VirtualBox. But I only played with it slightly.
