Found out this in latest 3.0 (this issue didn't exist in 2. 8)

I have a NUC with a HDMI screen connected.
Everytime I turn it off or I switch input, or the HDMI cable gets unplugged, it seems that X disables itself (HDMI: No input signal), even when reconnecting or turning on monitor, or switching back.
Only way to recover is to CTRL+ALT+F1, log in, and then "startx".
Hello,

I am having exact same issue as you.
Were you able to find a fix that prevents X from closing down?
The link from below appears to describe the issue we are facing:-

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...ug/1308105

And it does not look like we will be getting a fix anytime soon:-

I have one computer that will connect to a tv/monitor by HDMI cable. My situation was a little different. All that would show would be the word 'XFCE' & the little Linux mouse with the whiskers.  That's it. Nothing else & there was no function to the computer. Had to hold down the power button to turn the computer off. Rebooting the computer & using the VGA port, no problems. As you stated, this started with LL version 3.0. The computer in question is a Gateway with nVidia drivers, and I'm sure that has something to do with it.
