Hello I'm currently running Linux lite 2.8 which is doing very well, I have try to install 3.0 with no luck is there anyway for me to upgrade using the terminal if so how would I proceed with the upgrade

Thanks so much
Hi RobGoss,

Unfortunately upgrades are only possible within a series, i.e. within 2.x or within 3.x. You can't upgrade a 2.x to 3.0, so you would have to install from scratch. Of course you can utilize your existing home directory including your config files.

What problems are you running in while installing LL 3.0?
Thanks so much for the response, 2.0 runs great but trying to install 3.0 is giving me a hard time it constantly freezes and will not proceed with the installation

I even try installing 3.0 on a Dell latitude 610 2-GB of Ram 60-GB hard drive and it refuses to install

I've try a few times and I get the same results not sure what's wrong
If you're still wanting to install 3.0... Some additional info may help the group as well as somethings to confirm/try...

1. Check the hash md5 checksum; ensuring you have a good download
2. How did you create the "live" disk (usb or dvd)? - preferred method use unetbootin for linux or dd command and windisk32image for windows
3. During the install process list the steps taken for the install
4. What's the error message?

Things to try;
Connect with an Ethernet cable
Omit Updates/Restricted extra - this can be done after install has completed..

Good Luck and keep us posted

I do as I always do when creating  Bootable USB I use USB creator from Ubuntu or Image writer, then burn My ISO file that way

I checked hash md5 checksum; everything looks good

I also unchecked the box for updates when installing just to speed up the process

For some reason it refuses to install and freezese on at least two of my machines
Folks should also be aware that 2.8 and 3.0 may look similar but they come with a completely different set of software version wise, not to mention a much newer kernel. Due to these factors, not everyone who has run series 2.x will be able to run series 3.x It is not a given.

Seems to be one should be able to run it if I'm already running 2.8. I can understand in providing the software within Linux lite and it using a bit more resources but! it's not
a good thing for a distribution to go from good to bad and not even able to load the os on a machine that was once running it

Anyway if this is the way Linux lite creates distro's I'll have to look for something that works on this machine.
According to your profile, you're running LL 32 bit.  If your hardware architecture is only 32bit, perhaps it is old enough that when advancing to a distribution with a newer kernel, your hardware ends up being unsupported.  As kernels get newer, they drop support for some older hardware.

You're still good until April 2019 on the 2.x series.
Yes you are correct it's a older machine and it's still works and I'm only try to put it to some use with just simply task. I do realize that sooner or later we're going to have to put these machines to rest.

I has 2.8 on it but after trying to install 3.0 I guess it mess up my current installation so now I'm trying to I stall 2.8 again and it just keeps installing and does not complete the installation
The LL 2.8 image file comes with the 3.19 kernel.  Instead install LL 2.6, which comes with the 3.13 kernel, and then run Lite Upgrade to get to LL 2.8.

FYI:  The 3.19 kernel support ends this month.  Kernel support for 3.13 goes until April 2019.  When you're all up to date, you should be at kernel 3.13.0-93.  If you aren't, then run the following:

Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic
