How does Linux Lite handle when new updates are available?
I notice in Linux Mint or other Ubuntu Distro's you either get something come up on the screen or in the panel telling you new updates are available
I was curious how linux lite does this as I have not see any sort of notification of new updates and have had to manually check if updates exist to download and install
Is there some sort of way to tell users about new updates? as I have installed this on my sister's computer and the first thing she asked (she has never used anything but Windows before) is how do I know when to update it?
I don't know the reason why a prompt doesn't exist, but I speculate that having a process run in the background, constantly checking for updates and prompting the user, adds weight to a distribution trying to remain lightweight. You'll just have to tell her to manually check for them every so often. I've developed the habit of checking each weekday evening, for example.
Sorry if this as been covered...
been dipping in/out recently due to other commitments....
What happened with this
updater tool...??
Apparently it didn't make the cut for LL 3.0 along with the Lite Control Center. I noticed once the update check was added to the Lite Control Center, it would take longer to open. Further development on it and the updater for Linux Lite seems to have been halted for now.
But since Linux Mint XFCE appears to have the same updater that the other variants of Linux Mint have, having something for Linux Lite (which also runs the XFCE desktop) and remaining lightweight seems like a possibility. For now, it doesn't get much easier than Menu > Favorites > Install Updates.

The Linux Lite Welcome screen that I believe comes up on startup by default, prominently displays a coloured "Install Updates - Do this first" button. If your sister makes a habit of clicking on it, updates if any will always be checked for. The routine may be a little cumbersome, with a step or two that could well be eliminated, but the reward is in speed with which the updates are delivered (seconds, really) - a definite plus compared to the horror stories abounding in the Windows territory.
I should also think that with Linux one can feel safe not checking for updates rigorously every day, but determine a reasonable interval instead based on experience.
