Followed AVJ's advice (changed some UEFI BIOS settings) and created a new partition on the drive. Installed LL2.8 and all successful until trying to update software. Unfortunately have tried to find best mirror etc but get same error message, could this be UEFI related?

I doubt that the problem is UEFI related. UEFI mostly only affects how the system boots the operating system as far as I know. This is most likely a network or server problem in my opinion. If you are not having any trouble viewing websites I would suggest switching to a different server for updates.
Used the 'Select Best Server' option and reloaded to a server here in Australia but still get
Truly 'baffled'....
Tom
That screenshot looks to be pointing to no Internet??
Are you connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
Try Ethernet, see if better results... The Wi-Fi driver may be "flaky" and dropping connection while checking...
May want to check the menu - "Install Drivers" possibly for an updated wireless driver..
Update
Oh... since this thread has migrated from partitions.. You may want to create a new thread for the issues with updates; it may help engage others to assist..
But I think you're close to having it buttoned up

Thanks Firenice, definitely not a wireless problem...I'm using the same (wired) box to run Korora,Mint,Debian and Elementary OS with no network issues. Am connected to the 'net as I write this, but can close this thread if you feel that I've 'strayed' from the original subject.
Tom

as I mentioned this one suggests connectivity - may try setting back to original or another server???
Would like to 'close' (Solved) this topic and similar one in "Install Software"....can I do this? If so how?
