Are donations to Linux Lite from the US tax deductible?

I don't know, but this link from the Debian Site says contributions to SPI (Software in the Public Interest) are.  And this link from the Linux Foundation says contributions to them are not.

If, like SPI, Linux Lite needs to register as a non-profit organization in the US for donations to be tax deductible, then the paperwork might be worthwhile.
Reading more on the SPI, it would work fine if I lived in the US, since they do not use PayPal, which ofc they could then transfer any donations to. Unfortunate that way.

I emailed the folks at SPI.  I said, "I use Linux Lite.  Is it possible for Linux Lite to become an SPI project, or do they have to be in the United States?"  Their response is below.

They don't use PayPal. If I lived in the US, then their existing payment methods would be fine. I don't live in the US.
This is Gregers Petersen's response to your last message:

Hi Torrey

It is not possible for me to judge this comment. I can just state that
SPI is offering several different services, and that the board always is
willing to listen to suggestions and needs.

Sincerely

Let's hope they integrate PayPal.
