My Dropbox panel indicator disappears whenever I close and reopen the laptop lid. Nothing is set to suspend or hibernate when the lid closes. I created a launcher to refresh the panel when this occurs. The command I use for the launcher is lxterminal -e "xfce4-panel -r". I'll continue to use this as a workaround, and I'm passing it along in case others have the issue.
I have experienced the missing Dropbox icon a number of times as well. Reboot doesn't help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled (using the Lite Software option) and sometimes that works, sometimes not. If not, trying it again usually "fixes it" at least for a while; then it reappears (the problem, not the icon). Going to the menu and clicking on Dropbox (under internet) does nothing.
If I do a search on Dropbox in the LL forum, there are a lot of related threads that come up, but I see not real solutions that work for me. Any thoughts on this, is it an xfce issue?
Chris
Try to create a launcher to refresh your panel. I've included a screenshot below.

Well torreydale, I was going to give this method a shot but this morning ... Dropbox has returned (booted this morning after being shut down for the night).
I may give it a try when I run into the issue again, but honestly my concern is that I really just want everything to work like it is supposed to without workarounds.
I am beginning to think there are some buried xfce issues. On my other laptop I had to move from LL to Mint w/Mate desktop as I was getting constant lock-up (mostly when using the browser); but now no issues with Mate. Unfortunate, as I love the speed, features, tweakability of xfce but stability, usability are at the top of my list.
Thanks again for the suggestion and screenshot, it is helpful (a picture is worth a 1000 words, eh?).

I don't really consider this a workaround. Even with Windows, I would occasionally have to right click and refresh the Desktop. There's no default right click refresh feature here, so I created a refresh button once I found out the command to do it.
I installed Dropbox using Lite Software.
I don't have compositing enabled.
Hi firenice,
1) I installed Dropbox with the Lite Software tool
2) Yes, the app indicator is installed
3) I do have composting enabled, but need (want) to leave it that way
Chris
hi torreydale,
Dropbox disappeared again, so I tried to make a "refresh" button, and that went pretty well. So far today since then it has disappeared 3 or 4 times and the refresh button has brought it back, so thanks for that.
I know just enough to be dangerous with Linux, but wondering if you could explain what is actually being refreshed, and maybe why this happens?
Chris
I don't know why yours is happening so often. For me, I may lose an indicator if I suspend by closing my laptop lid or if I hibernate the pc. Both of those actions tend to give me some swapping. Manually suspending the laptop does not.
My best guest for what the refresh button is doing is it's rebooting the panel in Xfce.
Just for update sake..
Installed from Dropbox Website...
- Dropbox and indicator were installed...
Icon disappears after hibernate (gone completely)
Turning composting off while icon is displayed = icon goes invisible - hover and right click still functional...
:-\
I think torreydale's workaround might be the trick...
