It is my experience that every installation like this that I have tried had instructions in the form of a readme or some such file in the directory after you extract it.

I finally managed to get the usb boot for LL 2.6 to work..
The size of the usb stick was very important in my experience

The LL2.6 driver  works great with the Dlink USB stick so now I am fully functional on LL2.6
