Hi,
I have installed linux lite 2.2 on ESX5.5i.
On the right lower left the network icon keeps trying to connect and always report "disconnected".
Are VMWare Tools Installed by default ?
During virtual machine creation I have choosed "Flexible" as network adapter. Is it the wrong one ?
Please stay with one thread when requesting support. Also, I don't know if anyone here would have experience with ESX5.5i so an answer may not be forthcoming. I would try the VMWare support site itself since we don't out-of-the-box configure LL to work with ESX5.5i
Sorry Giuseppe,
I'm pretty clueless on this type of install. Aside from VMWare forums, you might want to register and post your question on this forum:
LinuxQuestions.org. There are some pretty knowledgeable people over there and one of more of them might be better able to help.
Good luck.
@Jerry: I apologize, I thought a different kind of problem needs a new topic. Oh, yes, it was not so different ;-)
gold_finger: I'll try there but I am still experimenting.
new problem: now I am installing encrypting the user folder. The installation hangs at "creating user" phase

Best practice is to start a new thread for each topic. But I can tell you that encrypting during installation is fixed on 2.4 (April 1st release)
I have found the solution. I have changed the disk device node from SCSI to IDE. It seems LinuxLite does not like it.

VMware Tools is not installed by default, since it is not required for the guest OS functionality. Not just in Linux Lite, in Windows also.
Here you have a guide on how to install VMware Tools in Ubuntu running in ESXi 5.5.
