Hello!

Yes, Linux gives most old XP-era scanners new life - which is good, because those are dirt cheap now...

HP are brilliant. If you're going to get a new printer/scanner please support HP. They do wonders for linux Smile
HP for printers ok , but not their Laptops , had to replace hard dick after a little over a year of use & they wanted around a hundred dollars in order just to have it oem , I mean windows 7 . I went with Linux on that lappy .
Hello!

Some of the newer HP lappies have issues with inadequate heat sinking on the graphics chip. As a result, the chip gets so hot that the solder connections on the chip itself start to melt. As a result, the soldered connections on the chip then have to be reflowed.

Reflowing the chip requires a considerable investment in a reflow workstation to get it done right, and a heck of a lot of masking with Kapton tape - not to mention stripping the lappy to its guts and removing the motherboard...

True mate . I bought a kind of laptop fan & I used to use it on my old netbook , it was used or sometime used on my other laptop & mostly used on this lappy .
