I'm starting to change my opinion on this. It looks like people don't really need a music player.
From the comments I see here, people use several applications for each of their need.
I personally use qmmp because I just play mp3 files and I don't use any online music services.
VLC is more like a video player to me and it's ok for playing videos.
On the other hand, Banshee is a media player but it looks more like a music player than a video player.
People should decide which one is the best for them, but what is the best way to introduce those music players to people who never used linux.
Maybe with the Welcome screen or with some guide that will say:
Welcome to the the world of linux those are some popular music, video, office... apps

I voted Spotify because that's what I use for streaming music, but I generally just use VLC to play stored music.
Use Audacious as my main music player and VLC for all else. For background noise using Radio Tray...it's quick and easy.
Thank you to everyone to date for contributing, this thread is proving insightful for me.
VLC is a must-have on all of my machines (three desktops and two laptops). But, for music, I use Clementine on my main production machines and Guayadeque on all my virtual installs (very lightweight and responsive.)

VLC for media, Clementine for stored music, Spotify for streaming music and Radio Tray for random radio tunes.
Clementine looks fairly popular. There is a possibility we'll be removing Netflix from Install Additional Software now that it is natively supported on linux and replacing it with a music app. Will let the poll run a while longer.
Spotify is what use use on almost everything.

Even if its not preinstalled it should be considered to be added to the list for extra installs....
And the Winner is......Clementine. This has been added to Install Additional Software and Netflix has been removed, Install Updates to update.
A HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in this Poll, it's feedback like this that helps steer us in a common direction.
Voted for VLC , but installed Clementine due to some posts here in the thread . Love it so far .
