Hello,
My old Thinkpad hardware gave up the ghost, so finally got a new Lenovo where I promptly installed LL 8 (previously on 4gb RAM with LL 6.6). 😀
I noticed immediately that Thunar kept crashing with my chosen treeview configuration whenever I used Ctrl-H to toggle hidden files.
Ctrl-H just closes Thunar without any alert. This happens if you try twice in a row, and the 3rd time, it shows a dialog "Failed to execute default File Manager" Input/output error.
I always use the treeview (similar to Win Explorer habits at work), so don't like going back to shortcuts in the sidepane to avoid this bug.
Searching led me to this bug https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=19127 and their fix available in thunar>=4.21.5
My thunar version shows 4.20.7
Not sure how the update and fix cycles work between ubuntu and LL, so my question is:
i. can we hope to get a fix with usual LL updates or do we have to wait for a version upgrade (since LL 8 is based on ubuntu 26.04 LTS) ?
ii. any idea by when a fix would be available ?
Web AI suggested I try to build thunar locally, but not sure if that will introduce more bugs from the new codebase and/ if there'll be any impact on updates in the future?
Only workaround I've found so far is careful double-clicks with the trackpad/mouse, which is what I'm trying to get used to.
Interestingly the Ctrl-H works randomly sometimes after having used the trackpad for a few times, but then Thunar crashes again.
Any tips or helpful suggestions will be much appreciated.
